Who is Skookum For Kids?

Skookum for Kids was established by two Home Economics Teachers on maternity leave, Jenny and Mel. We began creating outfits for our daughters, which lead to gifts for friends, then after encouragement we expanded to creating and making items for sale.

Jen and Mel are long term friends and have uncannily similar backgrounds. We both grew up on farms, and spent a lot of time cooking and sewing during our childhood.  We can both say we learnt a lot from our very clever mums. We both spent high school years at boarding school and were inspired to become Home Ec Teachers so we could pass on the valuable skills of sewing and cooking to others.

What is 'skookum'?

Skookum has a range of positive meanings. The word can have meanings from 'good,' to 'strong,' 'best,' 'powerful,' 'ultimate,' 'brave' and 'first rate.' Something can be skookum meaning 'really good' or 'right on! 'excellent!' or it can be skookum meaning 'tough' or 'durable'.

We hand make all the products ourselves. We aim to make durable, functional and affordable clothing and items for kids that look great. As mums we love to have one off, special, yet affordable items for our kids so we hope you find something special for your little ones.
